Formby CVS / Luncheon Club

FORMBY LUNCHEON CLUB is a thriving member’s club for over 60’s and from 1996 has been operated by a Committee of the Trustees of the Charity ‘Formby Council for Voluntary Service Ltd’ (Formby CVS – Tel: 877311).

The Luncheon Club started operating in 1965 twice a week in Jubilee Hall, Holy Trinity Church.  It was deemed a success and a Committee was formed after 2 months.  The Committee then decided to look for a building of its own.  The Council (Formby UDC) was persuaded to purchase the house and land at the corner of Rosemary Lane and Brows Lane.

The Club provides a lunch consisting of a main course followed by a dessert or cheese & biscuits and coffee or tea on Tuesday and Thursday and is served at 12.15pm.

It’s open all year round for except for 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks at Easter and the last 2 weeks of August.  The Committee are hoping to re-open on Tuesdays and Thursdays to begin with then on Wednesdays as well to provide afternoon teas with a movie.

Annually, a Christmas Lunch and a Christmas Party are organised.  Fundraising activities include 4 Breakfast Breaks per year which include stalls (on Saturday mornings) and are also open to the public.

There is a very cheerful atmosphere at the Club and members come as much for the company as for the food.  Everyone is checked in at the door to confirm the booking records and for fire regulations.  This ensures that anyone who has booked a lunch but fails to arrive is checked up on in case of security or health problems.  In this case it is important that members telephone the Club prior to lunch to report any likelihood of their non-attendance.

The Club is also monitored annually by Sefton Council for compliance with their hygiene, safety and management standards.  It currently has achieved LEVEL 5 – the Food Standard Agency’s highest level.  The Committee is committed to the maintenance of this standard.
