Formby Chess Club

Formby is a long established chess club which welcomes players of varying standards from the village and surrounding areas. It is now firmly based on Tuesday nights at the Ravenmeols Community Centre with car parking and in a very comfortable well equipped room which by general consensus is amongst the best in the Merseyside Association, lacking only a licensed bar but with the Railway pub close by.

The main competitive season runs from September to May during which period the club enters 4 teams in the Merseyside League. For 2015-16 following relegation and promotion the 1st and 2nd teams  will both be in Division 2 and the 3rd team in Division 4 and a team of four in the restricted grade '440'division but no entry in the 600 division   thus giving opportunities for competitive play to all members, of long experience or relative newcomers to the game. There are also 2 cup K/O teams. The club has ceased to play in the Wirral league after the 2013-4 season

The club has internal competitions throughout the season open to all members and also individual members take part in outside chess congresses details of which are on a separate page.

Players wishing to see what the club has to offer should peruse the site pages, ring the Secretary Mike Barrett on 01704 877854 or from September 1st pop along to Ravenmeols Centre on a Tuesday evening from 7-30pm
