Eating Disorder Young People's Service (EDYS) - Information Letter for Children/Young People, Parents & Carers

 

Sefton Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) partnership has been adapting in the face of Coronavirus.

To ensure children, young people and families can get the support they need they have issued new guidance on the support available and how to access it.

The guidance covers information on:

  • Crisis Support, Alder Hey CAMHS;
  • the Alder Hey Eating Disorders Service for Young People;
  • the School Nurse Service - Emotional Health and Wellbeing support;
  • Parenting 2000;
  • the Venus Star Centre;
  • Kooth;
  • Sefton Council for Voluntary Service (CVS).

Alder Hey CAMHS offers specialist services to support children and young people in Liverpool and Sefton, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing mental health difficulties. We also provide support to their families or carers.

 

Sefton CAMHS are based at Burlington House, Waterloo but also offer sessions from our Southport base (Houghton Street).

Some of the issues that we can help with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Attachment Difficulties
  • Conduct/Behaviour Problems
  • Depression
  • Emotional and Behavioural difficulties in children with Learning Disabilities
  • Obsessions and Compulsions
  • Psychosis
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-harm
  • More complex psychological difficulties

We also provide consultation, advice and training to other agencies and accept referrals from a wide range of professionals. The team is multi-disciplinary, which means our clinicians come from a range of clinical and professional backgrounds.

The service works with the young people, parents, carers and partner agencies to make sure that the right care is provided to each individual, depending on their needs and circumstances.

 

Eating Disorders

The newly formed Eating Disorder Young Person Service (EDYs) provides treatment to children and young people with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS).  This dedicated communitybased service provides timely intervention to multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention across Liverpool and Sefton.

If you are in crisis and you feel that you need support urgently then you should do one of the following:

If you are already being seen by the Sefton CAMHS team and it is during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm) . Please call your CAMHS Worker at 0151 282 4527.

 

Alder Hey Crisis Care Team operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week – the crisis care team offer advice, consultation and direct intervention to children and young people aged 0-18.  Families, young people and carers can contact the team on 0151 293 3577 or 0808 196 3550. 

You can call your out of hours GP Service for advice and support.  You can also call NHS Emergency & Urgent Care Services by dialing 111

If do not currently have a CAMHS worker or if you need urgent medical attention you should attend A&E.  When you get to A&E you will be seen by a mental health professional as soon as possible.

·         Attend A&E at Alder Hey if you are under 16

·         Attend your most local A&E if you are over 16

Young people aged 16 to 18th birthday are supported by Alder Hey CAMHS Service in crisis care and talking therapies; however more urgent/emergency mental health presentations are assessed by colleagues in Mersey Care.

Referrals can be made via the Single Point of Access number by General Practitioners (GP) or other professional within the statutory and community sector, for example, any health professional, teachers, school mentors, career connect/connexions, social workers, youth and community workers, providing the young person or family has consented to the referral

Self referrals can also be made.
