The Patients Association

The Patient’s Association is the national non-disease specific helpline for anyone trying to navigate the often, complex health and social care systems in the UK. The helpline service is free and confidential.

The practical information and guidance the helpline gives can include: -

  • access to treatments
  • how to make a complaint
  • social care - patient's rights and responsibilities
  • changing your GP or dentist
  • seeing your medical records.

The helpline will often signpost callers to other organisations when appropriate. A call back service is provided for those who call out of hours.   If you ring the helpline and speak to an adviser, we should be able to respond to your enquiry immediately. If you leave a voice mail or email us, we will aim to get back to you within 5 working days.

Please note: our helpline advisers are not medically trained and cannot give medical or legal advice. We understand that many of the people who need to contact us might be in difficult circumstances and may be angry or upset, which is why they need to call us.  And we will do what we can to support all our callers.  However, we will not tolerate abusive or threatening language directed at our staff.

We are open Mon-Fri 9.30am to 5.00pm.
