Southport Music Festival

The Southport Festival of Music (including Speech and Drama) is a forum for amateurs of all ages to present their talent in both competitive and non-competitive environments.

In particular the event stimulates and encourages participation and excellence and is a key opportunity to present this in a public forum.

It is clear that the appetite for the traditional Festival has greatly reduced – thus ends 116 years of adjudicated individual music performances.

We have decided to re-direct our efforts towards the development of choirs with particular emphasis on schools and we will be helping Sefton Primary schools to develop choirs for an annual event, This will take some time and so the first public event will be in June 2024.

We have developed this initiative with Sefton Music Service (a part of Sefton Council) and we look forward to a continuing and developing relationship for the promotion of music initiatives within the borough.

Meanwhile there was a very successful community choir event in June 2023, which was enjoyed by all where the Mayor of Sefton was present. This community event will be an annual one.

In addition we will be assisting in the development of a Southport Choral Festival which aims to bring regional choirs together in competition.

We would be grateful for any financial contributions in support of our aims and plans, which are to be made payable to Southport Music Festival as cheques made payable to Sing for Sefton cannot be accepted by Lloyds Bank.

Our new and additional website is below. We anticipate this increasingly becoming a hub for amateur choirs within the borough.
