Friends of Parks and Garden Volunteers

Many parks in Sefton have ‘friends of parks’ groups, where local people can have a say, and help in the management and development of their local park.

1. What are friends of parks groups?

Friends of parks are voluntary groups of local residents, workers or visitors who are willing to spend some of their time, energy and effort in caring for and improving their local park or green space.

2. What do they involve?

  • Holding regular meetings to discuss the park and any issues which are affecting it.
  • Carrying out practical conservation or management tasks such as clean-ups, community planting projects, and working with Sefton’s Park Rangers.
  • Organising events to attract more visitors
  • Working with the Council to draw up plans to improve the park and raising funds for projects.

3. Which parks have friends of groups?

4. What about garden volunteers?

There are a number of successful garden volunteer groups running across the borough now, many lead by the local community.

These sessions provide many health benefits where experienced leaders guide you through a range of practical projects, giving you the opportunity to tackle physical jobs in the outdoors – improving your strength and stamina, boosting your practical skills and confidence and benefiting your local green spaces.

5. How do I join/volunteer?

If you are interested in joining or setting up a friends of group contact the People in Parks Team on 0151 934 2345.
