RASA Merseyside Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre

RASA Merseyside provides essential crisis and therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence. When we are raped or abused it causes so much damage on a physical, emotional and psychological level.  Survivors typically experience any combination of shame, guilt, anger, low self-esteem, remove and depression and post-traumatic stress which may lead to self-destructive behaviour patterns such as self-harming, misuse of alcohol or drugs.

RASA Merseyside can help to prevent such devastating consequences by offering support and counselling.  We can help you to come to terms with the fact that the rape or abuse that you suffered was indeed not “your fault”.  We will help to assist you in the healing or recovery process by providing a safe environment for you to explore the feelings and understand the impact this abuse has had on your life.  We understand that every experience of sexual violence is different.  You will not be judged and you will be believed.

Victims of Childhood Sexual abuse are the largest client group of RASA Sefton.  We are a specialist agency offering ISVA support and counselling to adult survivors and survivors under the age of 18. Our aim is to ensure that all survivors of sexual violence are given the opportunity to access our support.

As part of on-going advocacy work we offer support and training to various organisations including students and teachers within the area. Our aim is to provide knowledge and power that will not only help professionals to deal with disclosures of abuse but will encourage them to look for signs and ask the right questions, this also gives children the understanding that they may need to recognise abuse and give them the confidence to disclose.

RASA works in partnership with other organisations within the borough to ensure that each client is assessed individually and that their specific needs are identified and supported.  We offer an outreach service often seeing clients in other agencies which may be more accessible to the client or it may be that the client feels more comfortable attending a centre that they are familiar with.

People affected by sexual violence need somewhere to turn where they can be sure that they will receive expert help and support. RASA exist to provide this expert service!
