North West Air Ambulance

The North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) is a vital lifesaving service whose aim is to relieve sickness injury and prevent human suffering for the people of the region. Since the launch in May 1999 the helicopter has flown over 7500 missions transporting patients from all over the North West region. Many of those patients were critically ill and possibly would not have survived without the assistance given to them by the air ambulance and its dedicated crew.

We are told by doctors and paramedics that the first sixty minutes after an accident are known as the 'golden Hour'. The aim of the air ambulance is to use that sixty minutes not only to administer primary first aid, but to deliver the patient to the nearest accident and emergency unit. Our service receives no mainstream funding and relies solely on the help given by members of the community and businesses to stay airborne. Current costs are in the region of £1.9 million a year.
