Affordable Warmth Scheme

What is fuel poverty?

There are many reasons why people can find it hard to pay their fuel bills and these often become more pressing when the weather gets colder.

You might hear this referred to as 'fuel poverty'. Fuel poverty can happen because of:

• Low income
• Expensive or inefficient heating systems
• High fuel costs
• Poor quality of housing
• Lack of insulation in your home

How you can get help

If you think you are living in fuel poverty or know someone who is, there are things you can do if you are worried about keeping warm and paying your bills.

To seek advice and information about the support available call Sefton Council affordable warmth service on 0151 934 2222 or the local Energy Advice line managed by the charity EPPlus Freephone 0800 043 0151. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Alternatively you can complete the online referral form below to request assistance.

There are many simple actions that you take in the home that will help save you energy and money, as well as reducing green house gases, such as carbon dioxide. Some of these things include: insulating your loft and walls, draught proofing and installing an A-Rated central heating boiler.

Making your home more energy efficient could save you around 25% per year on your household energy bills and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions by up to two tonnes.
