Secondary Pupil Referral Unit: IMPACT
IMPACT provides a full time statutory education for young people from year 7 – year 11 who, for a variety of reasons are unable to access mainstream school. In Key Stage 3 this is on average for a 20 week placement which is based on a period of assessment followed by intensive targeted individual interventions which leads to a re-integration back into the appropriate mainstream or specialist provision. The Key Stage 3 Centre is based in Formby at the Pinefield Centre and is known as the ARC (Assessment and Re-integration Centre). Referrals to the ARC are predominantly from Sefton mainstream secondary schools or through the In Year Fair Access Panel. The curriculum at KS3 is broad, balanced and imaginative and includes a variety of short courses to target areas such as behaviour and social skills which otherwise present barriers to successful re-integration.
IMPACT Key Stage 4 provides a 2 year programme of core GCSE courses integrated with high quality vocational courses and work experience. Working closely with outside agencies IMPACT KS4 strives to support young people to improve attendance and engagement in learning to enable them to successfully access Further Education, Employment or Training and avoid becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) on leaving compulsory education.
The KS4 Provision is delivered at a variety of training and education basis throughout Sefton and is based at Dale Acre Campus in Bootle.
IMPACT supports all mainstream schools in Sefton, including Academies and Free Schools in reducing permanent exclusions and providing an alternative curriculum for pupils who prefer a more practical learning style and need individual support to achieve their potential. The Alternative Provision provides opportunities, if appropriate to meet their needs, for young people arriving from out of borough and statemented pupils in the borough to experience and achieve success in a realistic working environment to develop skills for working life.
