Short Breaks in a children’s home (Springbrook)

Sefton Council Logo

Springbrook provides group based, overnight short breaks for disabled children aged between 7 to 17 years. Children can only access Springbrook following an assessment by a Social Worker. Typically, children who stay at Springbrook have profound and complex needs and disabilities. The homes Registered Manager will complete a full assessment to ensure that the child’s needs can be met safely. Short stays are organised on a rolling programme.

Children are supported by a fully qualified team of caring staff. This includes waking night staff who are available if children need help, support or reassurance in the night. The team keep in regular contact with families and other professionals supporting children to ensure a consistent approach is adopted.

The team also organise a range of fun and interesting activities for children based on the child’s individual preferences and interests. For example, swimming, bowling, arts and crafts, waterplay and baking. Children are encouraged to be as independent as possible but there are high levels of supervision to ensure their safety. Children are also encouraged to make choices about how they would like their bedroom to be prepared for them and can bring favourite toys or possessions to help them feel at home.

Springbrook has a minibus to take children on activities at weekends or after school. Transport to and from school is organised in partnership with the Local Authority Transport Team. Springbrook staff do not transport children to school.
