Asylum Link Merseyside

Asylum Link is an organisation dedicated to assisting Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Liverpool and to raising public awareness around refugee issues. It is a welcoming and safe place for people from all countries to meet, relax and find out about the city they have arrived in.

Asylum Link provides friendship, help and advice and encourages the participation of asylum seekers and refugees in the service.  ALM needs your help to do this and we currently have an appeal in place for extra funding.

We offer a wide range of services for asylum seekers and refugees. Most services are provided on a drop-in basis, with appointments available for specialist activities.

Every day, tea, coffee, and biscuits are available during opening hours in the kitchen area. Lunch is served most days to everyone.

ALM Volunteers

ALM has a team of around 120 dedicated volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, many of whom are refugees and asylum seekers. They perform a range of roles within our projects to support and improve the lives of asylum seekers and refugees, enabling them to integrate and participate in UK society.

We also have students on Social Work placements from John Moore’s, Edge Hill, Hope and Chester Universities.

For information about volunteering opportunities see the volunteer page

Services:

As we slowly begin to open the centre over the coming weeks, all visits are by invitation or prior arrangement. There are no drop-in services running at present. The best way to find this out is by phoning 0151 709 1713 or email inf@asylumlink.org.uk

Casework – caseworkers provide assistance with Asylum Support or other aspects of the Asylum Process. The telephone is currently the best way to access Asylum Link. (0151) 709 1713. There are 4 or 5 ALM Staff and volunteers available each day but may not be based in the centre. You can use the info@asylumlink.org.uk address for general inquiries or caseworkers@asylumlink.org.uk for the casework team

(Please note: The Casework Team meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 and 11:30 so it is unlikely calls during these times will be answered)

If you are asked to come to the centre, please bring a record/paper with the Caseworkers Name and the Time they have asked you to attend. This is to avoid any confusion and allow us to clarify any problems. The person telephoning you will give you their name along with the time.

If items are being delivered, we need a FULL address – building, number, street, district, and a telephone number to contact you.

Complex cases will occasionally be done face-to-face but by appointment only.

Destitution Support – Food and other assistance is available to Homeless Service users, with pick up once a week. This varies as circumstances change – pickup days may alter. If you are not currently registered, please contact a caseworker.

Where destitute asylum seekers have no phone or require credit to top up their phone, we will try to make this available.

English Classes – Contact the main number to provide your details. All teaching is currently online. There is currently no face to face teaching. You will need a smartphone or computer to take part. We are trying to access equipment; however, we only have a limited supply.

To register please have the following details ready

Current Address, email, and telephone details.  Estimate of language ability: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, days available to study. You will then be matched to a teaching group.

Other activities

We garden at our Allotment on Mondays and Tuesdays but are currently full to capacity. We will try and add extra days.

Bike rides – we are putting in place a series of guided bike rides. Bicycles are available on the day but must be returned.

Details will be made available here or on the ALM Facebook page
