Posture & Mobility Services - (for wheelchairs/major buggies, etc.)

Issue of manual wheelchair or buggy for long term use, special seating, and/or pressure relief if appropriate for use within wheelchair/buggy, free of charge. · Access to a free repairs service. Alternatively a voucher scheme is run for manual wheelchairs & buggies - when the PCT issues the client with a voucher for either an independent or partnership option

Independent Option:
The PCT issues the client with a voucher based on the value of the BHS provision, which together with the client contribution enables the client to purchase an alternative make of manual wheelchair or buggy. This is then owned by the client who is responsible for its repair costs.

Partnership Option:
The PCT issues the client with a voucher, which together with the client's contribution enables the client to obtain an alternative make of wheelchair than the PCT model, the wheelchair is owned by the PCT who will provide a free repair service.

The wheelchair is on permanent loan and need only be returned when no longer required. This also applies to the partnership scheme, but in the case of an independent voucher option, the wheelchair belongs to the client who can dispose of it as they see fit. Also assessment and provision of Electric Powered Indoor Chairs (EPIC's) and Electric Powered Indoor-Outdoor Chairs (EPIOC's) for clients meeting criteria. NB this services does not provide Scooters or Electric powered mobility for outdoors only mobility. Your GP or consultant can refer you to Wheelchair Services by filling in the appropriate form. If you are receiving treatment from an OT or Physio, they can also refer you.
