North West Ecological Trust
The Northwest Ecological Trust is an independent registered charity founded in 1988 by a small group of conservation-minded individuals concerned about the loss and damage to local environments. We set out to create, protect and preserve natural habitats for the benefit of wildlife and, in 2010, we were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Aims: to help reverse the loss of wildlife habitat in North West England and to stimulate public and private concern for the natural environment.
To provide field study areas and acquire and manage areas of land to the benefit of their natural history.
Major work at present involves the development of Gorse Hill Nature Reserve, Aughton. This 100 acre site has developing woodlands, wetlands, ponds and wildflower meadows.
Gorse Hill Nature Reserve. Free Admission Wednesday & Saturday 9.30 - 4.00. Special Openings some Sundays - see website for details.
